In order to improve readability, this section (the monitor speakers) is self-contained.

The Steps to Building Speakers

Building speakers is both a science and an art, when you use Speaker Workshop. The following pages walk through the steps I went through to design and build the monitor speakers.

Decide on drivers I ended up selecting two Vifa PL18WO-09 woofers and the Vifa XT25TG-30 tweeter per speaker.
Test drivers The woofers are tested for FS, QTS, and VAS, the tweeters are tested for resonance.
Design an enclosure I used a ported design with two woofers and one tweeter. The woofers are in series.
Build a prototype The prototype was a stand mounted system with two woofers and a (new) tweeter.
Test the prototype The final testing produced exact frequency response and impedance charts for both drivers to enable crossover testing.
Design a crossover The crossover at this stage went far enough to allow acceptance tests for the enclosure and drivers.
Listen to the prototype A serious amount of time was spent listening, to ensure the measurements agreed with ears.
Build templates Templates (jigs) were built to help with building the enclosures.
Build the enclosures The enclosures were built using 3/4" MDF for the sides and 1 1/8" MDF for the front.
Finish the enclosures The enclosures were veneered and drivers were inserted.
Final Test Test the final product
